Details of the Event:

  • The celebration at the college began with a class-wise Ganesh Pooja, where each class gathered separately to perform the pooja and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. This spiritual start set a positive and devotional tone for the day’s festivities.
  • Following the Ganesh Pooja, every class enthusiastically participated in creating beautiful Pookalams, the traditional floral rangoli designs that are an integral part of the Onam festival. After completing their Pookalams, the students conducted a special Onam pooja to honor the festival’s cultural and religious significance.
  • Throughout the morning, SAS coordinators visited each class to supervise the poojas and the decorations. They assessed the creativity and effort put into the Pookalams and pooja arrangements and marked the classes accordingly. This added a friendly competitive spirit and motivated students to put their best foot forward.
  • After lunch, the Onam celebrations resumed with a lively DJ session. Students from every year thoroughly enjoyed the music, dancing, and vibrant atmosphere. The energetic DJ performance brought everyone together, creating a joyous and festive mood.
  • The event concluded successfully, leaving students with memorable experiences and a deeper appreciation for the cultural traditions of Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi.

SDG Goals Outcome:

  • For SDG 4 (Quality Education): The activity provided a hands-on, skill-based learning experience for students beyond academics, encouraging creativity, craftsmanship, and collaborative learning.
  • For SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), By using terracotta, a natural and eco-friendly material, the event highlighted the importance of sustainable and traditional art forms that contribute to cultural preservation.
  • SDG10:(Reduced Inequalities) By celebrating festivals from different regions (Kerala’s Onam and Maharashtra’s Ganesh Chaturthi), the event embraced cultural diversity and promoted social inclusion among students from varied backgrounds, fostering respect and unity.
  • SDG16: (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) Organizing the event with class-wise coordination and involving student committees strengthened peaceful coexistence, cooperation, and democratic participation within the college.
